THE PASS (Live)
Like Two Door Cinema Club’s Tourist History, Burst is one of those records that never stops grooving, completely dedicated to riveting bass-lines and synth heavy arrangements. At first listen, The Pass sound like Phoenix meets Passion Pit if they were both messed up on acid: a louder, messier rock band whose infrastructure depends on electro pop. The more you listen though, the more apparent it became that The Pass are spectacularly unique. They’re too heavy to fit into the disco pop genre with Hercules & Love Affair, too rowdy to be placed with Phoenix.
The Pass – “Treatment of the Sun” PMA Premiere from Pretty Much Amazing on Vimeo.
Their first single, the dance contagious “Vultures”, sounds like its already been remixed by Aeroplane; melodic guitar plucks, synth overtones, and an overly buoyant aura. The squeaky clean “Out Of Hand” displays electro funk at its finest while “Vinyl” sounds as titanic as Dom’s “Living in America”. Mixer Alex Aldi, who’s worked with Passion Pit and Tokyo Police Club, alleviates Burst until it sounds utterly crisp and sensuous, particularly “Rochelle”, a song equally seductive to Chromeo’s “Don’t Turn The Lights Off”.
FIVE KNIVES (Live)
“Four mysterious kids dressed in black with face masks were the highlight of the night. Five Knives created a sound that can only be described as Bombastic. At moments they delved into the aggressive electro stylings of Crystal Castles and The Bloody Beetroots, only to drop a chorus melody that I still haven’t stopped singing. Keep your eye on this band. They are for real”. -BPM

One of Nashville’s most exciting, fiery new artists, Five Knives have burst onto the scene with little no information about who they are, how they came to be. However, one thing is definite: Five Knives are set to explode their cities boundaries, and set their horizons on international success…they just don’t know it yet.
UGLY KIDS CLUB (LIVE)
Based in Nashville TN, Ugly Kids Club is the music collaboration of Steve Wilson (producer, songwriter, guitarist) and Aliegh Shields (vocalist, lyricist, guitarist). The pair formed in early 2011 when they discovered their shared love for
minimalistic rock duos such as Sleigh Bells, Crystal Castles, and The Kills.
Steve is a Grammy Nominated rock producer and songwriter by day working with bands such as The Juliana Theory and Jonezetta. Aliegh is a bartender who grew up on stage and in her bedroom teaching herself guitar. Their contrasting musical backgrounds helped form their unique sound of crunchy beats, fuzzy guitars, and undertones of synth-pop.
UKC have been releasing one video for each song for their debut video EP. The music will also be available December 2011 on a limited edition cassette with download card. The old cassette player in your car may just become your new best friend this winter.
OK DEEJAYS (DJ SET)
Formed 4 years ago, Aaron Chadwell and Alex Bell from Louisville Kentucky joined forces to throw dance parties and turn people (back) on to house/dance music. They promoted, dj’d, and crate dug until their parties blew up and OKDJs became synonymous with wild, sweaty, make-out-with-your-step-moms-friends-daughter, dance parties. What sets OKs off from the rest of the dj crowd, is their smooth disco/house/dance beats and their use of actual vinyl records. The use of records creates a large, rich, and thick sound, that lends itself perfect for the dance floor. Once the OKDeejays start turning knobs the dancers crawl out from behind the bar and onto the dance floor. Their groove cannot be denied.
Who have they played alongside? Everybody. Their relevancy oozes out of them, as they look to stay as some of the most premiere party throwers in the scene today. They tell me their recent plays go like this: “Gotten whiskey drunk with Star Eyes, Rocked an underground rave with Drop the Lime, rubbed mustaches with Sammy Bananas, played a skyscraper rooftop with French Horn Rebellion and Database. Who else?
Willy Joy, Dances with White Girls, Washed Out, Uffie, Jennifer 6, Derek Allen, Huggs, Figure, Tommie Sunshine, DJ Sega, Action Jackson, Le Castlevania, Hussle Club, Cults, Class Actress….and that’s barely the half of it.
